Job Description:

Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) at Manhattanville University seeks a full-time, Registered Nurse (RN) to practice 10-months per year, 35 hours per week, in a higher education outpatient setting.  This position is part of Health Services within Student Health and Counseling Services (SHAC)and reports to the Associate Director of SHAC- Health Services and Dean of Student Health and Wellbeing.

  • None

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Assess the health needs of students, provide immediate and follow-up care as needed
  • Knowledge of NYS immunization requirements
  • Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with HIPAA and FERPA
  • Maintain ethical standards and adhere to the University’s code of Conduct
  • Initiate referrals to specialty services and foster continuity of care
  • Conduct a comprehensive review of students’ medical history and conduct physical examinations
  • Prepare students’ documentation, including progress notes, intake/discharge summaries, documentation of important findings/diagnoses/assessments, and psychosocial history

o Complete necessary paperwork and reports, filing, and organizing reports accurately and in a timely manner

  • Monitor, record, and report assessment findings (symptoms and changes in health status) and interventions
  • Communicate findings in your assessment to students and designated providers (while being HIPAA and FERPA compliant)
  • Participate in the collection and recording of student health documents that qualify with NYS as immunization and assessment compliant
  • Assist with answering phones, scheduling, and triaging
  • Perform additional office support duties as assigned
  • Coordinate with the SHAC team and other staff/faculty as necessary and appropriate
  • Develop therapeutic relationships with students, college staff/faculty, and referral sources in the great community
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and compassionate bedside manner
  • Perform point of care tests including blood samples, fingerstick, Urine Hcg, EKG’s,etc.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, student education sessions, special events, orientations, etc. as needed (occasional evenings and weekends)
  • Provide teaching in the areas of health promotion, disease prevention, maintenance, and management of acute/chronic diseases and participate in regular health events to contribute to the wellbeing of the student body

 

Qualifications:

  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Able to use Automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred

 

Education:

  • BSN with active and clear licensing in New York State
  • Relevant, graduate degree from accredited program

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Experience working with college aged population strongly preferred

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift to 50lbs

Salary:

  • The annual salary for this position is $55,000

Hours Expectation:

  • Full-time, 35 hours per week; 10 months per year, with occasional night/weekend work for programming

Housing:

  • Housing is not provided
