The Lycée International School has an immediate opening for a full-time School Nurse working hours 8:30am to 5:30 unless school events.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited university preferred.

● Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and licensed by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice nursing.

● Valid license to practice professional nursing (R.N.) in the State of Texas.

● Minimum of two (2) or more years of nursing experience (preferably in school nursing, emergency, or pediatric nursing).

● Current certification in CPR; competence in hearing, vision, and scoliosis screening etc.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Advanced computer skills experience with Magnus Health preferred.

● English proficiency. Fluent in French and/or Spanish is preferred.

THE ROLE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Providing direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness and emergency care to students and staff. Ability to collaborate and work cohesively as a team member with the other campus nurses. As a School Nurse, you will be a key member of our student support team, working collaboratively with the other nurses, educators, parents, and administrators to ensure a healthy and safe learning environment. Your compassionate approach and medical expertise will be instrumental in promoting the well-being of our students, responding to health-related concerns, fostering a positive atmosphere that encourages health-conscious choices and supporting their emotional and physical health. The school nurse shall provide and coordinate the Health Services program such as:

RESPONSIBILITIES TO STUDENTS:

● Provide emergency care for the ill and injured, using first aid procedures and obtaining necessary assistance in cases of serious trauma and/or illness.

● Offer one-on-one care to an individual student as needed.

● Assist with the management of students who have health problems in the school setting.

● Maintain health records, including height, weight, vision, hearing, tympanometry and spinal screening or other health problems as deemed necessary.

● Provide referrals and follow-up for identified health problems as necessary to attain optimum health for each student.

● Keep accurate and complete health records on each student including immunization records, health history, screening results, referral and follow-up information.

● Adhere to the Texas immunization law securing records on each student and updating records as necessary on the health cards and the computers.

● Control communicable diseases (exclusion and re-admission) by notifying the health department of all reportable diseases.

● Administer prescription and over the counter medication with appropriate documentation.

● Dispense medication according to law and school policy. Document time, dosage and name of person administering medication

● Promote health education individually, in the classroom and as a resource to the teacher, thus promoting optimum health.

● Actively participate and support the school trips.

● Provide health counseling for students with health problems cooperating with other Head of School, Deputy Head of School, School Life, teachers, family physicians and other agencies.

● Participate as an active member of the crisis team.

● Sponsor Medical Career Clubs.

● Perform other functions as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SCHOOL AND STAFF MEMBERS:

● Actively support the philosophy of the school and the total school programs.

● Communicate effectively with members Head of School/Deputy Head of School, School Life in interpreting and implementing policies, laws and procedures of the health services program.

● Implement and maintain the School's medical emergency protocol.

● Foster communication with all faculty, staff, parents and students. Maintaining close contact with the Heads of the School.

● Ensure and maintain updated student health records, including immunizations, scoliosis testing, hearing and vision screening.

● Order and maintain Clinic equipment and supplies.

● Completing incident reports for students/staff and acts as liaison with Human Resources.

● Provide faculty and other personnel, who have a need to know, with information about students with medical conditions. Assist with the management of these problems in the classroom. Maintain updated information on students with medical conditions keeping records confidential.

● Compile monthly health services reports and annual reports and immunizations.

● Continue to pursue educational studies to maintain a professional level of performance.

● Cooperate with other staff members in child abuse and drug abuse cases, assisting with the assessment, documentation and referral process.

● Update skills in CPR/AED each year. Teach CPR/AED to staff members yearly.

Attend staff meetings and other meetings required of staff members.

● Perform other duties as assigned by Head of School an/or Deputy Head of School.

● Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO COMMUNITY:

● Promote health by participating in community health activities such as, organizing flu shot clinics, blood drives, teaching First Aid and CPR Courses and assist the American Red Cross during disasters, etc.

● Be a liaison between the school and community, physicians, hospitals and other health agencies

● Maintain emotional control under stress.

● Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.

● Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other equipment.

● Ability to lift to 15 pounds at a time.
