Request For Application for Nigerian Nurse Educator Scholarships for the 2025 – 2026 Cohort

Abuja, NGA (July 1st, 2025)

The National Association of Nigerian Nurses in North America (NANNNA) declares open application for scholarships towards coursework for the year 2025 - 2026. The scholarships will enable nurses to become nurse educators registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

NANNNA acquired funding from Health Carousel Foundation for the scholarships to develop nurse educators within Nigeria. This initiative which is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, aims to support, and empower Colleges of Nursing Education, improve the staff strength of the institution, and only staff already in such schools should apply. Recipients of the awards must be an employee of such Nursing training institutions who will receive funding to complete an accepted educational program required to register with the Council as Educators.

Applications are requested for scholarship to study Professional Diploma in Education (PDE), Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), or Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing Education (PGDNE) from an approved partner Nigerian higher education institution. Funding for the program comes from the U.S.-based nonprofit Health Carousel Foundation.

Applicants must be graduate nurses licensed with the Council and qualify for entry into a Professional Diploma in Education (PDE), Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), or Post Graduate Diploma in Nursing Education (PGDNE) from an approved Nigerian higher education institution. Applicants must work as nurse educators upon completion of the program for a minimum of two years. Applicants must not have access to other education funding sources, such as through their employer. Additionally, selection preference will be given to nurses already working in the capacity of clinical instructors or preceptors, in the College of Nursing institutions and meet the position standards set forth by the Council in 2018.

This third cohort opportunity will be given to Twenty (20) Clinical Instructors and Preceptors working at all nursing schools in Nigeria. To become eligible for this scholarship, Candidates must first apply and be granted admission into the 12-month PDE, PGDE and PGDNE certificate program. A list of acceptable schools for these admissions has been published by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Application for the scholarship will be accepted until April 14, 2026. The NANNNA Scholarship Committee will review all applications and announce the recipients of the scholarship by May 2026.

About the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) is the sole governing body that regulates all cadres of nurses and midwives in Nigeria. This program has received strong support and is only possible through coordinated efforts with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
